Welcome to the Picture it & Write creative writing exercise. I invite people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (please provide a translation). Anyone who wants to join in, is welcome. This photograph will be reblogged under Ermisenda on tumblr and added to the Picture it & Write gallery on Facebook and Pinterest.
Please continue to write however you’re inspired, but add a tag to the beginning of your post if there’s mature content in order to keep Picture it & Write an engaging event for all of our followers.

“He what?”
“He broke up with me. I don’t want to talk about it.”
I was shocked. Reaching out, I rubbed my sister’s back. They’d been dating for eight years. We all thought it was taking a while… I’d even considered nominating them for that Hitched or Ditches TV show. Get married or break up. Never thought it would be the latter.
“I’m not a biologically acceptable mate,” my sister told me between shaking sobs.
Thinking she must be joking, I asked her to repeat herself.
“What do you mean?” I asked once she repeated herself. I wanted to think he wouldn’t say that to her. I mean really, biologically unacceptable? What did that even mean?
“I can’t have kids,” she whispered. My hand stopped rubbing her back. It happened years ago. Why would he bring it up now?
“That’s a stupid reason.” I couldn’t help but let my voice raise. If he was going to dump her over that, why lead her on for so long?
“Happens all the time,” my sister sobbed. “Girl likes guy. Guy is gay. Biologically unacceptable.”
–Eliabeth Hawthorne

It hurt inside her heart, it stung in her eyes, it ached in her very soul. How would she cope? How could she carry on without him? He was her very life, the air that she breathed. What was the point in keeping on going?
A crying in the next room woke woke her from her black thoughts. That was her reason to go on, half her, half her dead fiance. Her almost husband. One more day and they would have married. Just one measly day. Now she had a funeral to plan, but that’s life.
She dropped the rose petals she had gathered up from the bed and walked through to her daughter’s room, picked up and gazed at the centre of her world, her reason for carrying on.
Oh how sad!
Ooooo! Nicely dark. Well done.

My first reaction was, “Who on earth marries someone without meeting the parents?” I liked the addition of the second picture and the underlying question of foul play.
Nicely done Eliabeth good story. Here’s mine http://joe2stories.wordpress.com/2014/12/14/picture-it-and-write-petals-on-the-bench/
Enjoy
I loved the twist … that was very creative.

What a beautiful picture, and I also enjoyed your surprise at the end. I wasn’t expecting the word play. I took a crack at poetry for this week… 🙂
The Petals of Life–
A petal falls, from the tuxedo pocket of a high school boy
A petal falls, from the wrist of a high school girl
Petals have fallen and Petals still fall,
Twos years of falling petals
A petal falls, from the bouquet of a late fiancé
A petal falls, from the bouquet of a smiling bride
Petals have fallen and petals still fall,
Twenty-two years of falling petals
A petal falls, from the plant in the waiting room
A petal falls, from the plant in the cancer specialist’s office
Petals have fallen and petals still fall,
Two months of falling petals
A petal falls, from the bouquet on a hospital bedside tray
A petal falls, from a gripped fist onto the waiting dirt
Petals have fallen and Petals still fall,
Tomorrow they will fall again
–I’ve also reposted this on my blog, but linked back here!
