Better than a Yellow Brick Road
Pop. My neon glasses protected my eyes from the blast of colored powder, but the rest of my face now shimmered in a green even Envy would be jealous of. Impatient children rolled through the colored puddles and fairies fluttered about in pinks, orange, and white. Color fell from my cupped hands as we waited for the countdown. 3… 2… 1… Throwing the dust into the air, we were engulfed in a rainbow cloud that settled on the brick beneath our feet. My painted nails and red lipstick no longer looked out of place. To us, the colored powder brought out a childish glee as if at any moment it would pick us off the path we ran and carry us to Neverland. For others, it had the power to grant wishes.

I love this prompt!
Thank you! 😀 I was so giddy to find this image. I almost cracked and posted it early.

Ooooh I loved it. First the alliteration, “perfect personalised pamphlets of memories,” and then the organized chaos of shredded wrapping paper. Thanks for contributing!
So the picture is the glitter in hands one right?
Yes, but if the other one inspires you, feel free to include it. I just didn’t have enough to write a full post about the run so I liked being able to incorporate the experience into a Picture it & Write post.
I think the idea is that the picture is whatever you see in it. I imagined she was spilling assorted jewels, so I ignored a lot of other stuff in the picture and I wrote from that.
what a beautiful story…the photo for the prompt looks so inspiring, thanks ^^ and that second photo look like a lot of fun!
The race was sooo much fun. If there’s ever one near you, I highly recommend it. It’s been my favorite charity walk/run so far.
http://mythoughtsonthesubjectareasfollows.wordpress.com/2012/12/09/imaginary-dreams/ Hope you enjoy!
Oh this made me cry! Very touching piece.
That race looked like so much fun!
It was one of the best days of my life. I ran with some friends who were very nice and slowed down while I was dying lol.
I might have to try something like that!
Google “Color Run” and your city. That’s the easiest way to bring up a variety of similar runs. I was actually really close to signing up for the wrong one, but I noticed it wasn’t the charity my friends had mentioned. There’s also foam runs, zombie runs, vampire runs, and some other really exciting ones I’ll get to participate in next year.
Here’s mine http://scraps-from-life.blogspot.in/2012/12/nightfall.html
Beautiful! I particularly liked:
A thousand glittering beauties
Rain down.
And,
The night is born.
Ravishing and resplendent.
She looked at him as he sat there, eyes half on the telly, half semi-interested in her. She held some glitter in her hand and let fall through he fingers. “Remember the night you proposed to me?” she said “You told me my eyes glittered like the stars with love for you.”
He turned his head, paying some more attention, though one of his eyes were still turned towards the game. “I have learned something in the years we have been together.”
Her eys narrowed as she continued “All that glitters isn’t gold!”
I like this short narrative.
Ouch, Joe….! This happens all too often, me thinks… 😉
Awe. I certainly hope if I ever get married, we find a way to work through moments like that.
So do I!
Sounds like the time for counseling went by some beer and pretzels ago.

That’s absolutely beautiful. I think all leaders need a little magic fairy dust in their morning coffee. I love the selflessness and sharing mentality. I really enjoyed it.

I absolutely admire people who have that special touch with kids and you captured that in the ballet teacher. Great characters 🙂

THANKS very much – was also intrigued by your story and visual – wonderful! http://managuagunntoday.wordpress.com/2012/12/10/picture-it-write-magic-hands/
I had trouble getting past the -59 degrees F lol. As I was reading I kept thinking “nothing is worth those temperatures. No amount of money or pretty sparklies is worth that.” I love what you did with the picture though, very unique story and I hope you continue to participate in Picture it & Write. 🙂
Didn’t I hear that it was that cold on the North Pole yesterday?
That would be why I have no intention of visiting Santa. Ever.
Well done, Eliabeth; what a fabulous story and (tie in) image of you…! 🙂
We have ‘Make a Wish Foundation’ here in Australia too. They do wonderful work…!
Here is my contribution for this week:

Thank you. I wasn’t looking to tie it in, but I wasn’t about to pass up the opportunity.
Finally! A dark story; love it! Very unexpected but I absolutely love where you took the prompt. Funny thing is, there’s another picture that, if I had to guess which picture this belonged to, I would have guessed.
Ha, funny, speaking of another picture… glitter was one of the impressions I got that has showed up a couple of times already. I wrote my glitter story to another picture a long time ago. This is the third time I’ve been reminded of it, so I guess since no one’s ever read it, I’ll share it here. If Only It Would Rain
Apparently we really like glitter, just not in the Twilight sense. I haven’t gotten a chance to read your post yet but I’m looking forward to it!
Sparkles
Shattered dreams turned to dust
Colors disappear
Nothing sparkled anymore
Nothing for her here
Sun behind the clouds
Moon just a hint
Her eyes that sparkled once
Lost that twinkly glint
Waking up
Sun peeking through
A glimmer of hope
There in view
Moon shining
Clear and bright
Stars sparkling
Through the night
Sparkles are back
In her eyes
Twinkling, shimmering sparkles
Happy times
(Gemini)
I like the idea of night being a happy time with twinkling eyes chased away by the sun. Thanks for contributing.
I’ve always been one of those who wished 9-to-5 meant the other side of the clock. This does a good job of saying why!
Oh me too!

I was captivated from the beginning and really enjoyed the opening. “I leave the analogy as it would make us either the rats or the children and we are neither.”

Amazing picture!! Very inspiring.
I know how late I am, Eliabeth, and I’m sorry! First, wow, I love you so much! I think I might follow a new fashion trend here! ♥ I love the way you forced us all to appreciate the color in your words! It was like reading a rainbow! And sharing your inspiration at the end… um… fired me up!? Beautiful!
Everyone else… catching up. I promise.
I ended up having to throw away the first piece I wrote for this. Here’s my second effort.
Had a couple minutes, so wrote this. It’s not my best work but here it is anyway:)
