Welcome to the Picture it & Write creative writing exercise. I invite people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (please provide a translation). Anyone who wants to join in, is welcome. This photograph will be reblogged under Ermisenda on tumblr and added to the Picture it & Write gallery on Facebook and Pinterest.
Please continue to write however you’re inspired, but add a tag to the beginning of your post if there’s mature content in order to keep Picture it & Write an engaging event for all of our followers.
Our footsteps clanged on the metal stairs while we raced up the long spiral. The steps were narrow and treacherous. Three times, I had to reach for the cold railing, slick with last night’s rain. Dark critters scurried across the building but kept their distance when we drowned them in the light from our flashlights.
“Hurry up, Princess.” My knight offered a hand. He was handsome with dark hair and pointed ears. To everyone else, he was dark and brooding, but I could see his every emotion played out in his aura. He made me feel safe, loved.
“Daydreaming again?” A voice snapped me out of my fantasies and I lowered my camera.

That’s alright Al. You don’t have to reply every week, but you can also go back at any time and write for an earlier prompt. Thanks for dropping by, I’m glad you liked it. This picture reminded me of a scene in one of the Iron Fey novels.

Not heard of them, but the story did remind me of Dungeons and Dragons with the elf 🙂

The cheerleader sprinted to the top step. “careful!” I called to her.
“Don’t worry about me, just make sure you’re recording.”
I flipped open the LCD on the camcorder and aimed the lens at the lady in a red shirt and white Texas High top.
“Please, Claire. You wont survive the fall!”
“Patrick!” she said. “Stop talking and trust me. I’m not doing this for anyone else. I need proof for myself.”
I shook my head. This girl was impossible to keep up with, but I love her to death. “It’s recording!” I said.
The cheerleader pulled her hair back and wrapped it in a ponytail. Her right leg went over the railing first. Her golden blonde hair looked like a brilliant falling star against the grey clouds. I could hear her bones snap as she fell face first into the grass below.
“Claire,” I whispered. I ran and kneeled by her side. She wasn’t moving.
“No, no, no. Claire, please. Please wake up.” I rubbed her back and kept whispering her name, but she wouldn’t move. Tears feel and my chin trembled. Then I hear her groan.
“Did you get it on camera?” a muffled voice said.
Claire stood like a puppet with Parkinson’s.
“Fuck you!” I said smiling. “It’s all on tape. Jesus Christ, never again.”
Her jaw was dislocated and nose caved in, arms broken and collar bones looked shattered. But right before my eyes I watched her heal. It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.
“Never, ever tell anyone about this. Promise?”
“Yeah,” I said.
“Promise me!”
“I promise!”
She snatched the camera from my hand and yanked out the memory card. “Now please drive me home. I need to get these blood stains out. ”
(Inspired by the show “Heroes.” Pretty much my recollection of the scene).

Oh yeah, that is a good scene. I can’t remember when (or why) I stopped watching Heroes. Mine was also inspired by another piece.

I can’t remember if it was after season 3 or 2 where the series kinda took a dive for me. I think it started with villains? Anywho, I was more into Heroes in the beginning and after “defeating” Sylar. The characters are just lovely.

Twirl and twirl, the metal steps
Twirl and twirl, up they go
Twirl and twirl, past clouds and sunbeams
Twirl and twirl, beyond the ground’s reach
Twirl and twirl, so very many
Twirl and twirl, so little time
Twirl and twirl, my strength commands me
Twirl and twirl, I must reach the top
