I ventured forth with bread in my hand. Birds flocked to me, expecting their lunch. I tore pieces of bread and threw it. It still amazed me how the pigeons managed to find the pieces of bread in the snow. My hands shook but I kept tearing the bread and throwing it. My dog Blanca circled me. The pigeons were so used to me that they barely flinched when Blanca came near.
Squinting, I looked up to the sky. It was a white haze. There were darker clouds forming. I didn’t trust the weather and shuffled over to my car. The birds followed. Suddenly, there was no light. But when I looked out my windows, I noticed that it was the birds that had covered my entire car. The darkness squirmed. Blanca in the back seat whimpered. I flicked the windscreen wiper and some birds flew away. But then they came back.
