I urge people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (provide a translation please :) ). Anyone who wants to join in, is welcome. This photograph will be reblogged under Ermisenda on tumblr and added to the Picture it & Write gallery on Facebook and Pinterest.

Every fortnight we hope to host a photograph suggested by contributors. So, keep those photograph recommendations coming. Submit your favourite images (with credit) for next week’s Picture it & write!

The clasp that held the jewelry box snapped open. Sylvia lowered her pearls down into the velvet fabric, as if waiting for her newest treasure to glide towards the others. There was a seabed of glittering rubies, dazzling sapphires, and exquisite emeralds. The majestic diamonds shone the brightest; they were her greatest friends of all. Something about the diamond had always fascinated her the most. Despite all the pressure the diamond had once experienced, it became the strongest and most beautiful of all the jewels.

Have you ever noticed how often time is a major plot point in entertainment?  Everyone is running out of time.  Profilers only have 24 hours to find missing children before it’s too late.  Samantha measures her life in six minute increments as a high powered lawyer in The Undomestic Goddess.  Time is currency in the movie In Time.  The world is going to explode; the island is going to sync and the world is going to end in 2012.  Why do we spend time working to earn money that we end up spending on health supplements and herbal remedies to get more time.  What is our obsession with time?

-Eliabeth Hawthorne

I caressed my grandmother’s paper-skin face. She  was weary and trembling. How much longer did she have to live? I watched as the life leaked out of her, in the form of tears. I gripped onto her hand. With the last morsels of energy, she pulled something out from the drawer and dropped it into my palm. It was a peculiar watch, with a rib-cage for the cover. “Use it wisely,” she whispered and she never spoke again.

“The Gods envy us. They envy us because we’re mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.” – Troy

*

I remember watching the Troy (2004) film a year after it was released and that quote has never left my mind. I remember enjoying the movie overall in my young adolescence and was surprised by the amount of negative reviews it received. I now, of course, have matured especially when it comes to what I value in a movie. Some might consider me a movie snob as I love many foreign films, art house films and the more subtle kind that don’t need expensive CGI, stereotype gender roles and predictable plotlines. Whenever I think back to Troy I can only ever remember that quote and I don’t dare to watch it again, in fear that it will ruin my positive experience of the film. I think many of us do that with some of our childhood films and such, don’t you?
