Sorry it’s late this week. I have just gotten home from Australia and I am very jetlagged. I may use some pictures from my trip in the upcoming weeks, so please check back on Sunday to see if I’ve gotten the images off my phone successfully.

Picture it & Write is a weekly creative writing prompt. We invite people to join in by commenting with a work of fiction to accompany the image; it doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (please provide a translation).

Please continue to write however you’re inspired, but add a tag to the beginning of your post if there’s mature content in order to keep Picture it & Write an engaging event for all of our followers.

I’ve had to become a contortionist to fit into these plane seats. Despite the seat next to be being empty, I am trapped between two other people. Both are asleep and I really need to pee. My muscles need to be stretched. The seat is digging into the back of my thighs. How many more hours until we land? 16???

Watch a child play; it is one of the most beautiful things in the world. I remember spending half an hour climbing the stairs. I would grab the banister posts and stretch my body down the stairs, pretending that I was being blown away by a tornado. Now my knees gripe as I climb the stairs. The creek like the floorboards beneath my feet. There’s nothing fun about moving from one floor to the next anymore, not like when I was a child.

Sorry this is late. Due to Ermisenda’s absence, I am leading the prompt every week instead of every other week and it’s been hard to keep on top of it.

Welcome to the Picture it & Write creative writing exercise. I invite people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (please provide a translation).

Creative Writing Exercise: Stardust

“What do you suppose is up there? If you could step onto the plumes and walk into the stars? Is there a higher being waiting for us? Are there pearly or golden gates from which we will be turned away? How long would it take to walk out of the atmosphere? How fast could you slide back down if you changed your mind?”

I listened to Carolyn ramble, her words going in one ear and out the other. Fireflies I decided, thinking of Timon and Pumbaa. If I walked up on the clouds, I would find fireflies.

hidden-wizard

I walk through the world, but this is not my home. The colors are dull and low definition. Here, I feel restricted. My clothes are baggy and my shoes cause blisters. I’m stuck as a human. When the bullies chase me home from school, I don’t get to wear my +2 speed sneakers or cast spells with my staff.

At home, in the simulation, I am a 99th level wizard. instead of bullies, I face dragons and I can defeat them. No one messes with me. I have clan members who ban together against my foes just as I do for theirs. Though I have never met my closest friends, I know everything about them. They love me for me, for my raw personality. They do not see the skinny kid or hear my studder.

This post is also inspired by Ready Player One. I just finished my second re-read.

weekly-writing-prompt“You have a skull tattooed on your hand? Why on earth would you do that?” My father shook his head as he drove. “You were so beautiful before all these tattoos.”

“I think she looks cool.” My brother shrugged. I gave him a weak smile.

“Why would you put it on your hand like that?” my mother asked, looking towards the backseat where I sat.

I raised my hand and covered my face. The tattooed skull nose overlapped mine and so did it’s mouth. My mother’s brow furrowed and she looked worried. My brother exclaimed, “Cool!”
