love-affair-booksHaha! Loved this Tumblr post. It’s scary how true it is. It’s like you share a special secret with that book. Beyond the humor of the post, it reminded me of how I often looked at my bookshelf and smile knowing that there are so many worlds I’ve explored. It’s hard to believe that the entire Harry Potter world and the fandom that now follows has come from piles of bound paper. Just wonderful and glorious paper and ink. We have so many amazing stories and worlds inside these silent books and we are unaware of them until we read them. It’s in moments like these that I remember how awesome humans can be.

You are now the main character in the last book you read. Who are you?

You are now the main character in the last book you read. Who are you?

Ignoring that the last book I read was a non-fiction guide to building an editorial calendar (a guide on content marketing), I am Siddalee Walker, oldest daughter of Vivi Abbott Walker, Ya-Ya extraordinaire. No thank you. I’ll take my mom over that woman any day. I’d like to go back one more book to The Elite by Kiera Cass so I can be a musician dating a prince.

Who are you?

PS, dang we didn’t think to do anything for April Fool’s. I think we forgot last year too. One of these years, you won’t know what hit you. 😉

Books Don’t Take You Anywhere – Excerpt from article

“For years, countless educators have asserted that books give readers a chance to journey to exotic, far-off lands and meet strange, exciting new people,” Education Secretary Richard Riley told reporters. “We have found this is simply not the case.”

According to the study, those who read are not transported to any place beyond the area in which the reading occurs, and even these movements are always the result of voluntary decisions made by the reader and not in any way related to the actual reading process.

This is an excerpt from the ‘Books Don’t Take You Anywhere’ article. An enthralling article written by The Onion. It’s brilliant, isn’t it?

__may imagination rain down on me

*For whatever reason, the clip is not playing in the post.  Click the image to get it to play properly.

A beautiful little clip that I had to share with fellow readers, writers and anyone else who bothers to look. I’m waiting on technology to make reading this interactive, so much could be done but at the same time the beauty of reading is the imagination. If reading had action bits like this, would you still read it?

The beauty of this clip stands on it’s own but let’s think about it further. If we took the idea literally, would it devalue the reading experience for you? How would you react if a new stream of books were published using such interactive clips among the pages? Is this a possible future for books? (I personally don’t think so but it’s interesting to think about. I think the novelty would wear off.)

Does it provoke any thoughts for anyone else? Who else finds this totally AWESOME?
