I highly doubt anyone wants me building their house. I cannot remember ever hitting a nail straight, but I can paint. I figured my jeans needed a little more color. Luckily for me, Habitat for Humanity has a tab on their website for people who want to be involved, but have no idea what they are doing: Non-Construction. Thrilled that I could do office work, retail, or something in public relations, I decided it was time to stop talking and start doing. It is one thing to say “when our books sell, we’ll donate to charities X, Y or Z;” it is another thing to put my time where my mouth is.
Today was my first day working at ReStore, a retail store that resells items to raise money for the construction materials used in projects. While this time I spent 2 hours reorganizing the lighting department, they have promised to give me marketing and PR work next time I’m in. I will get to help write the newsletter and learn about press releases. So long as I don’t have to hammer anything, I’m happy.
