Girl_effect_pink_logoThe Picture it & Write Publication had many hiccups, but we’re still proud of the final result. I’d love to be able to say we raised hundreds of dollars for The Girl Effect, but we’ve always said that every dollar counts. As we continue to be active in charity runs and other projects, I’m excited to see what we’ll be able to do in the years to come. Not counting our volunteer hours, we’ve donated $1646 USD since starting our company. In addition, we have $160 AUD circulating in Kiva loans .

One thing I like about The Girl Effect is that you can donate to the organization and let them pick what to put the money towards or you can select a project to fund. Ermisenda and I are big believers in the power of reading and education so I’m excited to announce that we’ve been able to donate $21 towards providing an Afghan girl with a scholarship to attend school.

Join Us By Donating.

Thank you to all of the writers who contributed pieces to the publication and thank you to everyone who bought a copy. Special thanks to everyone who continues to participate in our creative writing exercise.

piwebookcover copyThe Picture it & Write Publication (ebook) is live! We’ve ordered a proof of the paperback and just need it to double check it before we set it live as well. If you had a piece make it into the publication, we’ll send you a free copy as a thank you, just leave a comment with your preferred file (PDF, Kindle, Nook).

You can purchase the ebook on Amazon for 99 cents or request a non-kindle copy by emailing ermilia [at] live [dot] com [dot] au. As we stated at the beginning of this journey, all profits will go to the The Girl Effect, a movement “leveraging the unique potential of adolescent girls to end poverty for themselves, their families, their communities, their countries and the world.” As we get royalty payments from Amazon*, we’ll send in the donations and update our Community Involvement page.

Important Information for Contributors

  • The ebook does not have a table of contents, but the paperback does. Sorry about that, but the ebook does have links to everyone’s blogs and book if you were a published author at the time of the submission.
  • If you like how it turned out, be sure to give it 5 stars on Goodreads!
  • If you have a Goodreads account and want to be added as an author, leave a comment with a link to your Goodreads profile.

If you received a free copy or want to donate more than the 35 cents we get per book sold, you can donate directly to our Paypal account where 100% of the funds sent to us will go to the charity.

btn_donate_LGWe wanted to make this humble collection of stories for you: the talented contributors, readers, and commenters. Any money we can raise for the charity is a fantastic bonus.

Come back in 2 hours for our regularly scheduled Picture it & Write prompt.

– Eliabeth and Ermisenda

*Payment schedule will vary depending on the amount of royalties paid over any given period. Payments begin after cost of ISBN registration is recouped.

The Girl Effect, as stated in a previous post, is a wonderful charity. Their aim is to eradicate poverty and they believe this can be done through girls. I felt like writing a post about this to support the wonderful work and goal they are apart of.

Reblogged on Ermisenda's tumblr

Are women the key? Maybe they are. As a woman I would like to think that we are the key to solving poverty and eradicating the mistreatment and abuse of girls. Personally, I believe a single gender cannot be the key and men/boys are just as important in eradicating poverty and cruelty. Who are often the perpetrators of violence, child marriages and restricting women’s rights? Are men to blame? Men are not to blame because in many third world countries (and first world) there are negative role models (e.g. parents), obscure traditions and beliefs (men are superior to women, the boys grow up with this belief just like we may grow up with knowing the sky is blue) and often foreigners exploit the people and young children for their own, perverted gain; the adults in that society may see that as an opportunity to make some money to survive.
