Happy Halloween! This week’s picture is my Halloween costume, taken in front of a prop we built for a decorating contest at the office. I invite people to join in to our creative writing prompt. Comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image; it doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (please provide a translation).

Please continue to write however you’re inspired, but add a tag to the beginning of your post if there’s mature content in order to keep Picture it & Write an engaging event for all of our followers.

Eliabeth-as-Cersei

Like Tessa, I shift into someone else. There is no clockwork angel beating against my chest and my bones do not shift, my skin does not shrink or stretch, but I do skim the mind of the woman whose clothes I wear. She is villainized. In many ways she deserves it, but I can see another side of her. I see a mother who would do anything for her children. She is a warrior.

book, books, Game of Thrones, GoodReads, recommendation

I love the Goodreads blog. I don’t read it often, but when I do it’s always a gem. The good people running the blog have created Listopia recommendations for some of the Game of Thrones characters.

For Daenerys’ Listopia, I’ve added Another Fine Myth and Myth Conceptions.

For Petyr Baelish (Littlefinger’s), I’ve added The Hunger Games.

If they had one for Jamie Lannister, I would recommend Oedipus Tyrannus.

Couldn’t resist voting for All My Friends are Dead for everyone.

Now it’s your turn! Tell us in the comments and then hop over to Goodreads to add your books or cast your votes.

One of my coworkers found a post on Facebook that had us practically rolling on the floor laughing. For whatever reason, it was taken down. Essentially, it went something like this….

Man ruins Game of Thrones with series of novels full of spoilers.

He does look kind of devious doesn’t he?

Game of Thrones and the Death Penalty

book, death penalty, Game of Thrones

I just started reading Game of Thrones. I’m probably not more than an hour (audiobook) into the story, but I was struck by a life lesson that one of the Lords bestows upon his son.

The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword.

He goes on to explain that when a leader hides behind an executioner, he forgets what death looks like. He should have to see the man’s eyes and hear his last words. If he does not have the stomach for it, then maybe the man does not deserve to die.

It makes me think of the death penalty. The people passing judgement are not the ones swinging the ax. I’m not even sure how we execute people. Is there a person involved? Could you be on a jury if the death penalty was on the table? What if you had to end that life with your own hands? Just some of the food for thought in the early chapters of Game of Thrones.
