I urge people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (provide a translation please :) ). Anyone who wants to join in, is welcome. This photograph will be reblogged under Ermisenda on tumblr and added to the Picture it & Write gallery on Facebook and Pinterest.

Please continue to write however you’re inspired, but add a tag to the beginning of your post if there’s mature content in order to keep Picture it & Write an engaging event for all of our followers.

They key stared at me with its penetrating grey gaze.

“May you enjoy your stay,” the maid curtsied. My grandmother’s mansion creaked as violent winds whipped the windows. It was an eerie night. I had hoped to finalise the paperwork over the inheritance in a day but complications had risen.

“I could have been on the flight home by now…” I muttered, staring out the window dappled with droplets. I turned my gaze back to the illuminated key on my side cabinet.

When the maid had left, curiosity got the better of me. Why did my grandmother have this ornate silver key? I snatched it and went to find what it opened. Chillingly, I noticed how the key weighed more than it should. It pulsed as if a heart.

White Night by *MartinStranka

I was afraid to blink. I couldn’t miss a single detail and yet it was so hard to identify anything in the inky darkness. Where was she? Golden orbs reflected from the city lights but only served to remind me how far she had taken me. I moved forward with jolting steps, I didn’t know where I was stepping. A road lamp far in the distance flickered, a female figure was standing there. Suddenly injected with adrenaline, I leapt forward and raced toward her. The wind whipped at my face until I began to shed tears. Her knees were buckling beneath her, her arms had fallen limp. I knew the moment she hit the ground she would shatter into a million pieces. With little hope I ran, waiting for not only the moment she would collapse but also my own.

The wolf’s mighty howl shattered the silence. I locked my car for the fifth time. I had encountered the beast upon the road on my way home. Thankfully for the high beam lights, I had seen her before it had been too late. But her and her two cubs would not move. I tried to swallow the knot lodged in my throat. I didn’t know much about wolves and I had no idea if she was calling for the rest of her pack. Her eyes met mine and she growled. Her black gums wriggled, exposing her sharp canines. I quickly placed my car into reverse and decided to find another way home.

If I somehow managed to jump out of the airplane, would the clouds catch me? Would they stop my fall? Could I leap, skip, and stroll across the bountiful cloud fields? I wanted to stuff my face with handfuls of cloud, like a child with candy. Sight was not enough. I needed to taste, hear, and feel. I pressed my fingertips against the thick glass. The beauty of the sky overwhelmed me and warm tears streaked my cheeks. I was neither here or there. I was nowhere and yet, everywhere. Now that I had savoured such a heavenly sight, I knew I never wanted to touch the ground again.
