I love perfumes. I love colognes. One of the sexiest traits of a man, for me, is how good they smell. I spend too much time in perfume stores, sniffing at all the delightful scents. One of my favourite books of all time is Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind. While I love books and I enjoy the smell of books, I would have never thought that there would ACTUALLY be a perfume for it. Well, the internet proved me wrong.

Paper Passion Scent is the perfect perfume for booklovers, it smells of a freshly printed book. Would you consider buying it? Maybe it is something to consider for those kindle owners who miss the smell of turning the pages of a brand new book.

The whole world was at my fingertips. Billions of jittering humans ran back and forth, occupied with their mundane lives. Why did they bother? What purpose did they have to endure the hardships of life, if it was all meaningless anyway? I traced my finger along the weakening atmosphere, caressing the decaying planet. Breathtaking natural vistas had been destroyed by humanity’s greedy nature. Did they truly deserve the greatest water planet of all time? My hands let go of the globe and it shattered into a million shards. No, they did not.

Kill them. by Senju-HiMe

They had beaten and abused me. They had spat in my face and stuffed my mouth full of dirt. Those men were the same who had taken advantage of a teenager who had run away from home. My chest rose and fell as my breathing doubled in speed. I felt her cool finger tips crawling along my back like a spider. I wasn’t a weakling anymore, I was strong. Bite marks were still fresh on my skin as she had lustfully devoured me. The men were outside the dirty country bar, as they were every night. Part of me wanted to walk away but her desires were now mine. I felt her luscious lips open, as if they were my own, and whisper, “kill them.”

My father had warned me many times before but with no avail. The mirror had taken my mother long ago and now it sought after me. My fingers fingered the Victorian iron wrought frame. Power radiated off it and burned my cheeks. I couldn’t look away. I was beautiful. I was perfect. Blemishes had been rubbed away, my eyes glittered and my skin glowed. I was the fairest in all the land and I wanted to keep it that way. My fingers tightened their grip.

“What a freak.”

Snickers surrounded Collin as he tried to pull the sleeve of his jacket over the nub of a left arm, the result of a shark bite when he was a kid.  Weren’t people supposed to mature at some point? Pulling his hood low over his ears, he used his right hand to put headphones in and drown out the mocking. His desk shook as the chair in front of it collided as a raven haired girl sat down with a plop.  “Hippo,” the same group laughed.

As Collin looked her over, she was heavier than the waifs on the cheerleading team, but definitely not a hippo.  He considered saying something, but the teacher walked in and everyone started shuffling around in their seats, opening up their books.  The drone of the projector started up and images of naked women filled the screen as they moved to the Renaissance.

The girl in front of Collin sat up, suddenly interested by the women with round stomachs and thick thighs, considered beautiful in their time.

What… the… H.  I thought this was a joke when I first saw comments flying about it on Facebook.  Not only is Gabby Douglas the first person of color to win an Olympic all-around gold medal in gymnastics, she is also the first US gymnast in history to win both a team gold and Olympic all-around gold medal.  What are people talking about?  Her hair.

I don’t know where this is coming from. What’s wrong with my hair? I’m like ‘I just made history and people are focused on my hair?’ It can be bald or short, it doesn’t matter about my hair. Nothing is going to change. I’m going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it.

-Gabby Douglas

Seriously?  Good for her for standing up in a society so image obsessed that we can’t be excited to see history in the making, and telling them to get over themselves.  I hope that as future Olympians look for someone to aspire to be, they look at Gabby and see her poise, determination, and incredible talent.  And for the record, there is absolutely nothing wrong with her hair.

Look at this picture and tell me how anyone can fixate on her hair.

Original article.

If I somehow managed to jump out of the airplane, would the clouds catch me? Would they stop my fall? Could I leap, skip, and stroll across the bountiful cloud fields? I wanted to stuff my face with handfuls of cloud, like a child with candy. Sight was not enough. I needed to taste, hear, and feel. I pressed my fingertips against the thick glass. The beauty of the sky overwhelmed me and warm tears streaked my cheeks. I was neither here or there. I was nowhere and yet, everywhere. Now that I had savoured such a heavenly sight, I knew I never wanted to touch the ground again.

“The Gods envy us. They envy us because we’re mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.” – Troy

*

I remember watching the Troy (2004) film a year after it was released and that quote has never left my mind. I remember enjoying the movie overall in my young adolescence and was surprised by the amount of negative reviews it received. I now, of course, have matured especially when it comes to what I value in a movie. Some might consider me a movie snob as I love many foreign films, art house films and the more subtle kind that don’t need expensive CGI, stereotype gender roles and predictable plotlines. Whenever I think back to Troy I can only ever remember that quote and I don’t dare to watch it again, in fear that it will ruin my positive experience of the film. I think many of us do that with some of our childhood films and such, don’t you?
