“It’s huge!”
“Ginormous!”
“How is this possible?”
I watched the moon in silence although everyone around me was eager to verbally share their awe. I was left speechless. I watched with wide eyes and contemplated the universe. Here I was, a tiny insignificant creature, witnessing something so much bigger than me. Curiosity and delight filled me up. I wanted to learn about the planets and stars. I realised in that moment that astronomy and science was what I needed to study. Although I did not say a word, I couldn’t imagine any other person here feeling more enlightened and awe-struck by the event than me.

Did you ever see Bergman’s film The Seventh Seal? This picture reminds me so much of the dance of Death in the final scene.
I haven’t seen that movie. But I want to see that scene if it resembles that photo.
The picture is so surreal, it give me the shivers. Yes, talk about feel like an ant.
I must also mention you pick the most fantastic pictures.
Oh thank you! I’m so glad you like them. I really try to choose engaging photos. I found the photo so surreal too.

One time, the Moon lay on the surface of the Earth. It lay at the end of a valley filling it with its ghostly light. Pilgrims will travel from far and wide to bath in the radiance of moonlight. Some of the magic of the moon came to these pilgrims and they brought this power back to their homes around the world. However this added power upset the balance of nature and the Gods had to act. They grabbed the moon from its resting place and cast it high into the sky, far away from the reach of mortal men. There it remains to this day, little else than a light in the sky, but the magic that those pilgrims acquired is still present in our hearts and it seeks out its source. So we are drawn to the moon, bewitched by its ghostly light, reminded of what we lost so long ago.
Oh, Joe; that was fabulous.
Reminds me of our Aussie Aboriginal ‘Dreaming’ stories – How the moon came to be… in the sky!
This was fabulous. So creative and enchanting. One of my favourite tales from you ever. Love the idea of the moon being cast up high because it was too powerful down here.

I like the sinister edge you took with this photo. It would be so strange if we no longer had shadows… Thanks for contributing, Danny!
Ermisenda, that was my response too when I first saw the image. How fantastic it is! I went immediately into awestruck. A great image for sure.

I like the idea that the moon saves use humans on earth. I hope it never gets to this extreme. The earth is too beautiful and it would be heartbreaking. As lovely as the moon is, our water-planet earth is so much more beautiful. Thought provoking piece!
