Woohoo! That thesis has been submitted. I will no longer be tormented by it (until I get my marks :P). What a great feeling this is! Although, to be honest, I’m having trouble letting go of working on it. I came back from university today and struggled to just ‘entertain myself’. What is this thing called life? I feel like there’s always more work to be done! It can be hard letting go of long-term projects, even when they’re done. Have you finished a long-term project recently?

Congratulations!!! Having gone through that with a two graduate degrees, I feel both your joy and sadness.
Thanks AR Neal. 🙂
Well done, Ermilia! That must have taken a bit of hard work! Congratulations! I hope it will get you where you want to go…
Ermilia is both Ermisenda (me) and Eliabeth. 🙂 It definitely did take hard work. Thanks for the kind words, Steve!

~(*_~)~~
Well done.
Thank you.
Congrats! I remember handing in my thesis. What struck me most was the anticlimax of it all. I just got a ‘sign here’ from the guy at the desk. No fireworks! No bikini models! No nothing! Just a sense of ‘what next?’
To drive it home I ended up putting a paraphrased quote from 2001 a space odyssey’ at the start of my hard. “when he was finished he looked at what he had done. He was master of the world and not entirely sure what he was going to do next. But he would think of something.” God I am sooooo pretentious!
* I meant ‘Hard-back copy”
Most definitely. It felt anticlimactic for me too. I think part of the reason why I find it hard to feel like it was a big achievement and I’m unable to relax is partly because it was so anticlimactic. “What next?” is most definitely a question that keeps running through my mind.
I have to present what I found at the university conference with my fellow students in two weeks. I think when that day passes (and I officially have nothing else to do for my degree) that I might be able to relax and reflect on my achievements.
Was your thesis for Honours or a research masters or a PhD?
Phd!
I am actually Doctor Joe
Oh awesome! Congratulations on that achievement (even though it’s not recent). What was your topic?
😮 Agony Uncle Doctor Joe!
Congratulations. I hope you have as much joy out of it as I have from mine. Continuing to Masters? Doctorate? That’s even more interesting. To answer your final question, I am involved in a long-term project right now, and have been all my life, ever since I first saw the light of day. After seven decades plus, it’s not finished yet, not until I’m wrapped in a wooden overcoat, and I’m not altogether sure it will be finished even then. Should be fascinating finding out.
Thanks. I’m able to appreciate the good times now. But there was a lot of stress throughout the year. I’m planning to do a postgrad diploma to make me employable, then I’ll do a masters, and then maybe a PhD. I’m a compulsive learner.
That’s one hell of a long-term project! 🙂
Congratulations!
It can be hard to “just let go” of something you put that much work into, so don’t feel like you have to just drop it like its hot. Give it a chance to cool down a little! 🙂
I feel like it’s definitely a slow cool-down process. But I’m enjoying it best I can. Thanks!
Congratulations Ermisenda ~ 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
