I urge people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (provide a translation please ). Anyone who wants to join in, is welcome. This photograph will be reblogged under Ermisenda on tumblr and added to the Picture it & Write gallery on Facebook and Pinterest.

I tapped my steering wheel impatiently. There was a line of cars in front of me and I knew I would be stuck here for a while. Sighing, I looked over to my left. A flood of colour flooded my senses and I froze. The sunset was beautiful. It looked like someone had painted the sky. Even the ocean’s reflection was smeared in pinks and coral oranges. A loud beep broke my trance and I didn’t notice the sky again until night had fallen, forgetting the awe I had experienced only an hour ago.

She concentrated so hard on driving she missed Nature’s glory unfolding all around. Her eyes remained fixed on the road ahead, her profile dreamy beautiful and remote. I felt myself curling into a ball inside, locking down and getting ready for the hit that was to come. Surely I would lose her this time, surely she was getting ready to say goodbye. Almost in self defense I drew in my breath.
“I love you” she whispered.
“Marry me” I replied.
She pulled the car over to the side of the road, the sunset filled the car with colour and her face was a silhouette against the painted sky.
“For real?” she said, still not looking at me.
“Yes, yes for real.”
The last rays of the sun turned the tear on her bottom eyelashes into crystal light. She nodded, smiled and pulled back onto the road.
“Yes. Let’s do it.” was all she said.
That’s beautiful. I love the fear of losing something so precious and their almost implusive action to keep it. I hope it ends well for them.
Thank you. I do too, I’m not sure if I could take it further though 🙂
I wonder how much conversation there was after that, and what thoughts raced through each of their heads. A spontaneous proposal like this is sure to create a whirlwind of different thoughts.
It is indeed. When my son-in-law asked me to help him by somehow getting my daughter to choose an engagement ring, I was driving. Not much thought happened other than, okay, yep. She was 17, it was nearly Valentine’s Day and he wanted to ask her at midnight on Valentine’s Day. Interestingly, I had no doubts about his ability to be constant and faithful so I agreed. They got married 18 months later and have been married for 2 and a half years.
So I guess some of this came out of knowledge and some from a dreamy netherworld. Good thing I’m not considering turning it into a Mills and Boon (or whatever it is these days), I would have to kill one of them off 😀
Beautiful and bittersweet.
I feel like there is so much happening in the background for these characters. It could be developed so much! A lovely piece, Lee-Anne.
Thank you, Ermilia!! Maybe, one day, I will write a book or maybe never 🙂
Nice, a traffic jam. Her face does have all the uninvolved poise of the cameo girl, doesn’t it? I just love this impression, how our busy life robs us of so much!
Here’s Still.
Stunning!
Ooo, liked how this ended with the image of Pi&W. Very Anne-esque with the silhouette. Beautiful! I like reading Jess since her scenes are nearly always so light-hearted and full of happiness.

Funny how when driving you can ignore everything that is around you. Good piece. Here’s mine http://joe2stories.wordpress.com/2014/05/04/picture-it-and-write-through-the-lens/
Enjoy!
Beautiful, I love the exchange and the energy, the tension you have created.
Very creative and a lovely story. I liked how you built the tension with her rant before that beautiful release of when he found the photo. Great work, Joe!

Ermilia and friends~Here is my take on the picture ~http://wp.me/p2Jp6l-8i
As an Aussie, this gave me chills. Fires are frightening since they can happen all of a sudden and cover great distances within seconds. My favourite line though was the last – “As the sun sets in all its glory the fire turns night into day.” Beautiful.
Visual and intense 🙂 Enjoyed muchly.

Team Netherworld’s collaboration is a little late, but here it is.

Love the Spanish in this story. I also like tat the sunset wasn’t the focus and didn’t hold positive beauty. I liked that she looked at it, and it did nothing for her because of the pain she was feeling. A nice different perspective.
Friggen wow!!
I drove and drove, getting away from him, I could not even think his name, it hurt too much. I just kept going. Like the movies, off into the sunset for a new start.
“Riding into the sunset” never even crossed my mind.
It’s the only thing that crossed mine, everyone else was so much more creative.
You were creative enough to write what no one else did. 🙂
Thank you that is true, but it was the obvious choice for me, I am normally more creative, but hey. I liked reading everyone else’s stories.
“I could not even think his name, it hurt too much.” – Heartbreaking. Thanks for contributing this week!
