I’m not someone who particularly cares about public affection, but I can truly empathise with the character’s love for fictional couples. My first ship (you never forget your first love ship…) was Ron/Hermione. I shipped them so hard that I would write Ron/Hermione fanfiction to HarryPotterFanFiction.com to keep the story count higher than the other ships. Ah…my twelve year old self… But hey! It got me into writing!
I also love Peeta/Katniss (Hunger Games), Augustus/Hazel (The Fault In Our Stars), Odd Thomas/Stormy (Odd Thomas book), Liesel/Rudy (The Book Thief), Wade/Art3mis (Ready Player One). They’re the first ships that come to mind. What about you? What are your favourite fictional ships?

I know the feeling, I don’t really like romance books but I do like romance in books. Strange I know. I think of Yelana and Valek (Poison Study), Katsa and Po (Graceling) and Ron and Hermione of course. 🙂
I’m 100% with you. I really don’t enjoy romance novels but great novels include a sub-plot of romance. Katsa and Po are a great couple! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
I saw ships in the title and I thought it was something nautical. I am so disappointed.
😦 Sorry Joe. Get ahead on the book geek slang! 😛 I’ll try to make a post about nautical ships soon just for you. xD
I always wanted Harry and Hermione to get together or Draco/Hermione, but I am not big on relationships in book just get on with the story xD Save Sherilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter novels.
Oh no, Nina. You were my greatest enemy when I was 12. 😛
I like villains more than heroes most of the time. Go, go team Draco xD
In more recent years I have rooted for the villains more than the heroes too. The villains just make the most interesting characters!
I was always a big Harry/Ginny fan back in my fanfiction days. Ron/Hermione was also pretty fun … although my favourite stories by far were ones about the Marauders, so I think Lily/James probably tops the list 🙂
Oh I loved Lily/Sirius in the Marauder days. For some reason I always thought James was a bit of a douche… 😛 Love Harry/Ginny though. I’m glad I wasn’t the only big Harry Potter shipper, Michelle. 🙂
Yeah, I’m one of those people. If you really care to read about the Ships that Team Netherworld has sailed, here ya go.
Warning: here there be cussing like a sailor, so if ye’ve sensitive eyeballs or somethin’, don’t read it, me not so hearties!
A lot of you younger people probably won’t know or care about most of the characters whose ships we chose to set sail.

Aww. I love the couple from Futurama. Great couples you’ve shipped and you have a lot of them! The Spanish Armada has competition. 😛 Thanks for sharing your ships with us today! 🙂
Sorry Ermilia, I meant to reblog the post with the comment to The Living Dead. You can throw out that other comment so there aren’t duplicates. I ate an extra bowl of Stupid Flakes for breakfast this morning!
We all have our Stupid Flakes some days. 🙂 I tried to post on your site but I’m not sure if it worked. Blogspot confuses me. 😛
I like couple-ships that don’t make it, but you feel the adolescent tension in their misalliance, like Gwyn and Alison in ‘The Owl Service’.
There’s something alluring about tragic romances. The tragic couple-ship I heart is Othello and Desdemona.
Gwyn and Alison don’t even get that close to each other… it’s all tied up with an ancient Welsh legend, and… well… you have to read it. 🙂
I’m not much into shipping while I’m reading books. When I watch different movies or TV shows, I do ship but that’s the only way I can do it. My brain thinks shipping for a relationship in a book is more complex apparently! Lol
As everybody that watches Vampire Diaries are team Delena (Damon & Elena) but I’m like in the 2% that is ships Stelena. (Stefan & Elena) more but mostly because Damon doesn’t really care for Elena, not in the way that Stefan knows her. I have like eight others ships that I have on that whole show. I’m a sad individual sometimes.
You’re not sad at all. We all have our obsessions. 😀 My sister has tried to explain to me the plot of Vampire Diaries but it seems so complex and strange. 😛 I think it’s a show that you need to watch to understand.
If you think you’re sad for shipping so much in VD, I still get freakishly defensive over Ron/Hermione in Harry Potter. 😛 I won’t let it die! R/H Forever!!! <33333 😛
Hahahaha! I have been trying to think of more ships that I’m into but so far that’s the only one I can think of and yes, if you don’t watch TVD from start to now, everything is confusing as crap. And a lot of people (like my mother) will just say “go for the cuter one!” that doesn’t work as well as you’d hope either. 😀
They’re all too attractive! 😛
They really are!! Lol 🙂
What if you just get insanely jealous because he/she falls in love with the character who isn’t like you?
Well, I’ve definitely had my moments where I have been jealous of characters. Some characters are just perfect. 😀 Although…I get more jealous of people who watch the MOVIE version but haven’t read the book. I get so possessive over books when they turn them into movies. The people don’t understand the full story if they just watch the movieeee! /rant
I recently read The Fault in Our Stars and I found the romance between Hazel and Augustus unrealistic, and just … I couldn’t understand their relationship very well. How they became instant friends and how she went to his place pretty much on the day she met him, I just found that odd, it’s not something I would do! And I don’t know, I felt like their personalities didn’t really match at all. That’s probably just me, though! 🙂
In my review of The Fault In Our Stars, I also critisce the beginning. It doesn’t seem realistic at all how quickly they just “fall into friendship”. It was the only true flaw that I could find. And it really irritated me. But once I got over that part of the story, I found them very cute and hard not to like them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Eliza!
