Welcome to the Picture it & Write creative writing exercise. I invite people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (please provide a translation). Anyone who wants to join in, is welcome. This photograph will be reblogged under Ermisenda on tumblr and added to the Picture it & Write gallery on Facebook and Pinterest.
Please continue to write however you’re inspired, but add a tag to the beginning of your post if there’s mature content in order to keep Picture it & Write an engaging event for all of our followers.
I’m very sorry but in order to continue to help Ermisenda add new and engaging content consistently, I may be unable to reply to every contribution. This has become so popular that I’m just unable to keep up. Thank you for understanding.
Why do people think genies are blue and wispy? I blame Aladdin. Phenomenal cosmic power, itty bitty living space? Pff. You know the real reason we only give you three wishes? We want to get rid of you. The rest of the rules are from the Union. No bringing back the dead or fiddling with human emotions. Not that we can’t, we just don’t want to. None of us want to open Pandora’s box and so long as humans think there’s things we can’t do, they won’t fear us. They should though. We’re mischievous creatures. We are the reason for the phrase, “be careful what you wish for.”

I live on a cloud above everyone,
And I don’t know why I fly.
I hide from everything and
Speak to no one, like a lonely god.
Separated from reality
I take the task to reach into the heavens,
And yet I pray to stay away,
But I get lost in the haze of drunken melodies.
I’m separate because of my thoughts,
And my heart is caught in a storm
Where I am beaten against the shore.
Falling is my greatest fear,
And I fall every single day.
The heart and the storm
Colliding forever in wretched fury
Above the sky, doing battle in my soul.
If I could have been born differently,
If I could have done more
If I could have been a better man
If I could have made it back to shore.
These are the things that plague me
Up here on my cloud.
So close to heaven,
But just as close to hell.
Ooooo very interesting spin at the end. I liked it very much, thanks for commenting.
Thanks! It’s been awhile since I’d posted and I got the email saying you guys had posted another and I decided to check it out and the image just screamed at me. “Start writing damn you!” 🙂
Wonderfully written. I wonder if these are thoughts that many of us will have when our number is up and its time to leave the body and reflect on our lives.
I like to pretend I don’t think about death, but I think about it too much… So these thoughts are ones that I think we’d have then, but I hope some people have good enough lives that they can be content when the bell tolls.
Very well done. That last line was a killer. Stuck between two words.
Thank you! It kind of floored me myself once that final line decided to pop into my head. I wasn’t sure where I was going at first. I just let the words take me where they will! It was an insane ride.
I missed last week”s Picture it & Write! Shoot! Anyway, here’s another short story. A Lion King reference 🙂

Hakuna Matata. Clouds will catch you 🙂 Kinda like shooting for the moon because if you miss, you’ll land near the stars.

Interesting concept for this image. Thanks for another week with us, Meghan.
Pingback: Picture it & Write: Neverland | DAY•DREAM
Hello! It’s been a while since I’ve participated but I’m officially back from vacation and in to join the fun! 😀
Great piece this week. There aren’t enough genies in the world. And that ending line? Perfect! Thanks for sharing!
This is what I offer this week:

Take care~
Welcome back!
How fun! I loved it. Have you ever read “texts from last night.” Your peice reminded me of one that went something like…
Why did I wake up ductaped to the roof?
It was easier than convincing you you couldn’t fly.
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I have read a few “texts from last night” things but I haven’t gotten across that one! that’s hilarious! haha it’d be an interesting prompt to work with 🙂
Ours is icky, icky science fiction/fan fiction. So if anyone hates science fiction, Dr. Who, or fan fiction of any kind, don’t read it and then whine about it! You have been fairly warned.

Don’t we all wish we had genies and better still, find a way around the three wishes cap.
Here’s my contribution:

It’s been super long since I’ve written anything but I finally got off my butt and wrote something, with plenty help from the amazing picture. 😀 Keep on posting these!

Welcome back! I’m glad this picture was able to inspire some of our former contributors again. Don’t worry, Picture it & Write isn’t going anywhere.
Interesting. Is it laziness that keeps him from reaching the sun? “Ambitious only in his mind,” great description.

Hi Meli!
Kudos for the correct use of a semicolon.
Kinda made me think of Japan. In Japanese culture, you don’t want an office with windows because it’s a sign they’re phasing you out. They stick you in an office with windows, don’t give you any work, and make you stare out at the outside world, unable to participate.

PS, if I skipped you it’s because I recognize your name. I’m trying to reply to new people or people who haven’t posted in a while. I greatly appreciate your loyalty and don’t want you to feel overlooked but I also don’t want to never get to the people who post late if I always start at the top.
I’ll try to switch it up week to week. Thank you everyone for being contributors.
