I urge people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (provide a translation please ). Anyone who wants to join in, is welcome. This photograph will be reblogged under Ermisenda on tumblr and added to the Picture it & Write gallery on Facebook and Pinterest.
Please continue to write however you’re inspired, but add a tag to the beginning of your post if there’s mature content in order to keep Picture it & Write an engaging event for all of our followers.
It was dark. Each way I turned, I could only see a blur of what had been. I remembered running down these streets with my brothers and sisters, all eight of them. No children littered the streets now. Only a decrepit man was strewn across a rusty street bench.
I quickened my pace. The bottom of my dress collected grime from the street. I shuddered at the thought. It was too expensive to be dragging on the ground. What would my husband think? So much had changed since when I had married the Count and left my hometown. I could see that much had happened here too.

I really like this! It has a heavy air of mystery about it, I wonder what’s happened.
I am tempted to continue writing the story to find out. 😀 I hope to read your contribution sometime this week. 🙂
I’ve used up my creative juicies today. So don’t be surprised if I post another one tomorrow.
This is one for tonight. 🙂

Yikes, I hope her night isn’t too bad. Sounds like a dangerous profession. I like how you channeled the eerie-ness of the picture, Meghan. Thanks for contributing this week. 🙂
“What would my husband think?” What was it you said about quotes that make you stop and think about them?
This picture matched one of my older dreams. I survived it. Here’s Le Rasoir Argent.
Traumatic ending. I like that it was unexpected but it makes it so tragic. Although, I’m curious as to what sliced through her? The French sprinkled into the story was a great touch, Annie! Terrible when she cried softly, “Mon bébé.” Thanks for contributing this week. 🙂

Enjoy
Great story, Joe. I like how they used him for bait. I’d hate to be in that position. At least they caught the criminal. Thanks for contributing this week! 🙂
This is my attempt.

Oh no, does that mean that he wasn’t there? That’s a shame. They have gone through so much. Lovely story that suited the photograph. Thanks for contributing to this week of Picture it & write.
Hi,
This is my contribution..
https://geminiwords.wordpress.com/2013/06/09/i-didnt-believe-in-ghosts-until/
Gem 🙂
I loved how you put those little tidbits of history through your story. Teasing us with ‘I still didn’t believe in ghosts until…’ was great. I kept waiting for the final scare. An enjoyable and unexpected journey! Thanks for contributing this week, Gemini! 🙂

Oh, I love that someone made a little romantic story. I hope that he’s everything that she hopes him to be. Cute story, Terry. Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write!

Here’s mine – off to read the others before bed.
What a perfect image you wrote. The ghost lady, half hidden by the parasol, heading towards the light. Beautiful. I loved how you evoked the eeriness present in the photograph. And also wove the title of the picture into your story. 🙂 Thanks for contributing this week, Neens, to Picture it & write! 🙂
Ermisenda that’s a marvellous write! Very atmospheric and easy to follow – all that plot detail in such a short write! Loved it!
Thanks, Neens! 🙂 There is definitely a lot unexplained…
Loved this one, reminded me of my daughter and my niece with their love for Steampunk and all things Victorian 🙂 I’ve written a little story which is linked to here: http://oreshmemoirs.com/?p=148
The title is “She, the Star”
A very different story. This was lovely! I loved this description ‘She couldn’t know where this would take her, it may set her in the stratosphere of super stars or plummet her to the depths of the has beens.’ This could be her moment! I hope she took it and made it hers. Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write. 🙂
Super picture! So creepy and gothic I couldn’t resist writing something 😀 So here’s my strange attempt: http://101keystapping.wordpress.com/2013/06/10/the-creature-in-the-dress/
I got a bit carried away and went over a paragraph so there’s a link in the post for anyone who wants to read the whole story!
Now off to read what everyone else came up with 🙂
What a delightful, creepy story. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed this Picture it & write experience. I loved the little teaser you put in the quote. I had to read the rest of the story. It feels much like an episode of a supernatural-ish crime show, like Angel or something. When she turned around, that was creepy. Loved this ‘Her face was shaded from the streetlights
by the lace parasol but it did nothing to obscure her features.” Haunting details of her flickering tongue. Great story! I hope to see you contribute more often. 🙂
I love this picture!! Here is what I did with it: http://starvingactivist.wordpress.com/2013/06/10/picture-it-write-9-june-2013-the-battle-rages-on-without-me-a-random-segment/
What a different idea! I loved how she was surprised that in her hand wasn’t a weapon. I would definitely be shocked to find a parasol instead of a gun! 😛 So much plot in so few lines. Great contribution, AR Neal. Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write! 🙂

I like the idea of the mist swirling beneath her feet. A great image! I thought that maybe ‘they’ were not her, but maybe some other trapped soul in this mystical realm looking for a way to escape. Regardless, great story! Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write. 🙂

I like the image of her dress dragging through the puddle. It’s a great symbol of how things aren’t going the way she wants them too. It’s a shame to have unrequited love. Hopefully she can convince him to take her! Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write, Donettas! 🙂

Fantastic. I loved this – “They say she lost her lover at sea and was so heart-broken, she never took off her mourning clothes until the day she stepped off a cliff to join her one true love.” So very creepy. What a great legend to tell! Very fitting with the image this week. Thanks for contributing, Kwadwo. 🙂

Nostalgia with a different shade.. made for a good read. 🙂 Added my contribution for this week. Hope you like it.
I like the flip over. Not only was she scared by them, but they were scared of her. An interesting take on the picture. Hahaha, the description of ‘zonked-out friend’ was awesome. Is that slang for drunk? The terminology is always evolving. Last time I checked in Australia, the popular term was ‘blind’. ‘I was so blind last night!’ Of course, suggesting that you’re so drunk, you can’t see a thing. Oh, language. Is it funny? Anyway, I’ll stop rambling, thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write! 🙂
This is lovely picture – my contribution for this one

Oh, how sad. A great poem. Love the message although I hope this mentality is changing! I know in the Australian army, they take PTSD very seriously now. Which is fantastic. Emotional wounds have to be attended too just as much as physical ones. Great poem!

I love how you weaved fiction into an event that did happen. Very creative. I’ve always been interested in the Csars. This story has inspired me to read some more about them. Thanks for contributing to Picture it & write this week, EagleAye! 🙂
Thanks so much. It’s been a lot of fun.
Goodbye old life, it was fun.
New dreams have been spun,
In this light of mystery
I leave behind my history.
Woods ahead, take me there
where people have their fair share
of zero nightmares and only dreams
and no terror ever screams.
– Otheus
What a great poem, Otheus. I loved the idea of her walking away from a turbulent past. I wonder what will await her beyond the woods? Thanks for contributing this week. 🙂
Lovely poem. I’d be lost without my nightmares though. Can I keep those?
a very late entry; 🙂

Very interesting. I liked how they were both separate and yet the same. Whereas most people saw one woman in the photograph, you saw two. Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write. 🙂

Late again! Here’s mine: http://hotchocolateandbooks.wordpress.com/2013/06/16/picture-it-and-write-awakened/
Oh, you tease us! What an atmospheric finale. I loved this description – ‘The skeletal limbs of the dead trees scrape at the sky, a vain attempt to reveal the sunset kiss of colours hidden beneath charcoal smear of clouds.’ Well done! Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write. 🙂
This is my first time doing something like this. I really enjoyed it and I plan to be back again. Until then: http://mytrousersrolled.wordpress.com/2013/06/17/picture-it-write/
