Happy Mother’s Day! Spoil your delightful mum today. 🙂
I urge people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (provide a translation please ). Anyone who wants to join in, is welcome. This photograph will be reblogged under Ermisenda on tumblr and added to the Picture it & Write gallery on Facebook and Pinterest.
Please continue to write however you’re inspired, but add a tag to the beginning of your post if there’s mature content in order to keep Picture it & Write an engaging event for all of our followers.
The pills glowed. It shone so bright I wondered whether it was in fact a capsule full millions of stars, threatening to burst from the plastic cage. My fingers shook as I reached out and took the pills from the man.
“Got the money?” he asked.
I nodded and handed the hundreds my father had stuffed into my pocket. The man with the strange robotic third hand scampered away.
In the darkness of night, alone and shivering from the cold, I gripped the bottle. I popped open the lid. I knew my father would beat me to death if I took any of his pills. I wasn’t sure if it was really happening or I was starting to lose it too, but inside was a galaxy of supernovas. The sight burned my eyes.

i love how you went with this.. told so much in very few words. the descriptions are great ‘millions of stars, threatening to burst from the plastic cage’ and i really like how it’s sad and fascinating all at the same time.
my 100 word fiction ^^ http://theeclecticeccentricshopaholic.wordpress.com/2013/05/12/picture-it-write-xx/
Thanks, Kz. That was the effect I was going for ‘sad and fascinating’. 😀
Loved how creepy your piece was! I really hope we don’t get overrun by those demonic creatures. I wonder what taking the pills did to our protagonist… A great ending, ‘My night has begun.’ Thanks for contributing to Picture it & write this week! 🙂

What a great image! Here’s where it took me: http://starvingactivist.wordpress.com/2013/05/12/picture-it-write-12-may-2013-the-cure/
I’m glad this week’s image inspired you, AR Neal. I love the transformation that took place in your story. The idea of metal breaking out from one’s skin. Oh, what a painful process! At least it would only take 15mins. Never trust a cyborg, lesson learned. Thanks for contributing this week! 🙂

A great story. I loved this description of planes – ‘They had cities that pierced the sky and housed millions, great shining birds of metal, that could take you around the world in a day.’ I’m assuming you were describing planes. 😛 The destruction of earth couldn’t have been too bad, ‘the men, all men, were nearly wiped out to the last.’ There were still women after all! 😛
This is my contribution for this week. Happy mother’s day everyone 🙂

What a great idea! I really like how you follow the character from pain to being cured. I also liked the change in writing style. We’re not getting a third person perspective, but the inner monologue of the individual. A great story, Ellen! 🙂 Thanks for contributing this week at Picture it & write.
Thanks Ermisenda. I think having to understand physical pain play a great deal with it. You know my job includes every detail of it. Sometimes thing are gruesome but most of the time saying patients healed is definitely rewarding.
Oh yes, it must be so amazing when a patient has been healed.
Here is my entry for this week 🙂
http://gotmeghan.wordpress.com/2013/05/12/picture-it-write-burn/
The metaphor of fire/burning candle was so beautiful. Great writing, Meghan! Addiction is something I would never wish on anyone. It’s not something most addicts feel like they can control, sometimes their most desired outcome is simply to be “torched”. To die. Although I know the biology and science behind physical and psychological addiction, but it still astounds me how easily we can become servants to these chemicals.
Hi my friend
http://terry1954.wordpress.com/2013/05/12/picture-it-write-ermiliablog-5/
It’s true that we can’t let our dreams or past ambitions haunt us. We should try to look forward and think about what makes us happy in the moment. What was important for a person when they were a child may be different now. Having the speech italicized confused me a bit, Terry, but nothing detrimental. Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write! 🙂
Here’s mine – a little late as I had a weekend workshop and assignments to finish for an online writing course.
Hope it is worth the wait – I enjoyed writing it!

I hope all your assignments/workshops went well! It was all very vague. I like reading your comment though. That helped form the story. I like to think the pills were saving her too. I’m not sure how going through this pain will help her friends though! Lots of tension. Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write, neenslewy! 🙂
Loved your inspiring story opening – I tend not to read posts until I have written my entry this one would have been a good one to follow on from.
Great line
but inside was a galaxy of supernovas. The sight burned my eyes.
A brilliant, captivating read Ermisenda.
Thanks! I really liked that line when I thought of it too. 😛
This was very cool! Really liked that little creative spin on it. Nice job!
Thanks, Marisa. 😀 I like to have little creative spins in my work.
Kind of an eleventh hour thing.
Creating a Cure
I liked the comment of “not so flashy anymore”. A great play on words. Loved the little details like that. I hope the final 10 percent keep fighting for human survival! Although…not sure whether it’d be best for earth if we weren’t here. 😛 Sorry for the morbid thought. Thanks for contributing this week! 🙂
Sorry, I couldn’t seem to post on your blog. I liked your story, well written. Musing on hope.
Stumbled here quite randomly but already I find this new and delightful, wonderful flash with such depth, brilliant.
Side note, love the banner 🙂
Oh thanks! I’m glad you found the flash fiction to your liking. I (Ermisenda) designed the banner. 🙂
Ha, nice! the images from your descriptions reminded me of the aliens playing marbles with the galaxies in MiB.
Joe and I wrote this one together so we could say we did it once: The Prescription.
Oh, this is superb! I loved that you and Joe collaborated together. It was exquisite. Such a cute and uplifting story. I smiled at this part – ‘“Listen, I ain’t in the habit of dating the guinea pigs,” she giggled.’ You guys worked so well together. Thanks for contributing this week with some a little extra creative. 😉
this was superb, Ermilia:)
Thanks, Nightlake. Feeling the love! ❤

This was great! I’m glad you shared it with us, Lex. This part stuck out to me – “Everything is so cold but I can sense a fire burning inside of my body, inside every bone, tissue and muscle.” There were so many great little descriptions. The title was a fantastic touch. Goddess or junkie. Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write!

Hi Ermilia, Please find mine here. I have written it as a sequel to my previous story:

Oh wow. I wasn’t expecting that ending! How abrupt. Yikes, I hope there aren’t too many doctors like that (ideally none) prescribing such dangerous medicines. Thanks for contributing this week! 🙂
It always gives me the chills,
this abundance of pills.
that get lit up by illumination.
The lack of feeling, not taken
into the equation.
Why is it so bright,
if I eat all the pills,
do I see the light?
– Otheus
Hehe, love the last line.
Thank you Anne 🙂
I like that the last stanza could be interpreted as “Why is it so bright if I eat all the pills?” but also “IF I eat all the pills, do I see the light?” Very creative! Thanks for contributing this week, Otheus. 🙂 I’m glad it inspired you. We haven’t seen you for a while!
Thank you Ermisenda!
I missed the awesome pictures and felt inspired when I saw this picture and read your story 😀

I like how you described the pills as ‘seductive’ but also mentioned ‘no ifs and buts’. It alludes to the idea that there is no choice. It grips you. It controls you. A lovely piece! Thanks for contributing, Shashi. 🙂

I love how you paid focus on the mechanical arm! It was great (but also kinda gross! :P) how the mechanical arm busted out from the man. A creepy but gripping story! Uh-oh, I hope she doesn’t taste one of the pills now. Maybe she’ll become his twin with her own metal arm? Thanks for contributing. 🙂

Great work incorporating so many prompts! I can see how Picture it & write weaved its way in. It was refreshing to read about a ‘blood vial’ rather than pills. Very creative! I also hated the Count until the end…he’s a bit of a tragic hero, eh? I hope he can save her! How many lives would someone take to save the person they love? A great theme. Thanks for contributing this week, Sam! 🙂
