I urge people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (provide a translation please :)). Anyone who wants to join in, is welcome. This photograph will be reblogged under Ermisenda on tumblr, and added to the Picture it & Write gallery on Facebook and Pinterest.
Every fortnight we hope to host a photograph suggested by contributors. So, keep those photograph recommendations coming. Submit your favorite images (with credit) for next week’s Picture it & Write!
“What a freak.”
Snickers surrounded Collin as he tried to pull the sleeve of his jacket over the nub of a left arm, the result of a shark bite when he was a kid. Weren’t people supposed to mature at some point? Pulling his hood low over his ears, he used his right hand to put headphones in and drown out the mocking. His desk shook as the chair in front of it collided as a raven haired girl sat down with a plop. “Hippo,” the same group laughed.
As Collin looked her over, she was heavier than the waifs on the cheerleading team, but definitely not a hippo. He considered saying something, but the teacher walked in and everyone started shuffling around in their seats, opening up their books. The drone of the projector started up and images of naked women filled the screen as they moved to the Renaissance.
The girl in front of Collin sat up, suddenly interested by the women with round stomachs and thick thighs, considered beautiful in their time.

Wow, Elia. That was really abstract, but the transition from freak to beauty really works. I was really outraged the other day at my bulimic toothpick doctor trying to tell me I’m fat. Grr! So yay for this!
Thank you Anne! That’s not photoshopped either (I so thought it was, but it’s no several science blogs and there’s a video of a similar one). Ermi and I pride ourselves on being unique so this photo really spoke to me.
Love this theme, loving women for themselves, not an airbrushed image. I like Collin. Well done. Mine is http://musingsfromtheturnippatch.wordpress.com/2012/09/02/picture-it-write9-1-12/ for those who want to read.
Thank you, heading over to read yours now!
Not able to finish.
the design called life.
It will deminish
any sign of life.
Never forgetting
purity, on it’s own.
Now it’s a mix and match.
Of a life pattern just sowed.
– Otheus
I really like the mix and match line.
Thanks for commenting Otheus.
I like the unfinished design too.
A pattern just sowed, how true. We are dealt what we are dealt.
Here’s Half in a Dream… and the first ever text actually written for Sarah’s Window. 🙂
I’m so excited to read it! Hopping over to your blog now.
Awesome! You captured the agony of wanting to write when the color and the words just won’t show themselves. WEll done!
Thanks, Turnip! I’d be lost as a writer without my dreams. 🙂
Pingback: A New Mask | Discoveries in a Letterbox
Loved this week’s entry. Was doing Renaissance art in class a week ago and had similar thoughts.
Here’s my part: http://discoveriesinaletterbox.wordpress.com/2012/09/02/a-new-mask/
A great take on embracing your comfort zone and feeling at home in it. Nice.
It wasn’t what I was expecting when you mentioned Renaissance art, but I like the struggle between light and dark. Thanks for contributing.
Oh, I didn’t base the story on the thoughts I had while doing Renaissance art. Sorry if it seemed misleading.
Oh you’re fine, just not what I was expecting from your comment lol.
here is my prompt for this week

Slow week, so I thought I’d add a silly limerick…
A peacock with feathers half white,
when teased by another on sight,
said, “It’s true what you say.
You’re more pretty by day.
But no one can see you at night!”
Oh how delightful! I love a good limerick.
Haha, cute Anne.
