No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.
The quote might be taken to mean reading non-fiction, but I don’t think it has to. I’ve learned plenty from fiction including vocabulary and higher levels of sentence structure. Part of why we wrote Blind Sight was to highlight that only getting one side of a story could incorrectly skew your understanding of events. This quote makes me feel guilty I’m not reading as much as I would like (last time I looked I was 4% behind my Goodreads reading challenge for 2012).
What about you? Does this inspire you to read more or are you surrendering to self-chosen ignorance?
