Time to celebrate and thank you guys for your support and encouragement.
We are inviting artists, photographers, and anyone else to post images of one of our Blind Sight characters to go in a gallery on the blog and on Facebook. One submission has the potential to be printed on a t-shirt.
Odette Reyes is the main character whose story spans both volumes of the first book. Blind from birth, her ability to draw is abnormal even for the magical world of Edaion where she and her brother find themselves after mysteriously ripped from their life in Spain. Our first gallery is going to be dedicated to her.
The contest:
Odette is a sixteen year old with straight medium brown hair that falls just past her shoulders. Freckles cross her nose and cheeks on an olive skin tone and we would like her blindfolded. Abstract images and photography are encouraged as much as realism. For an optional challenge, you may draw eyes over the blindfold as if embroidered or printed on the fabric. Your submission may be in any medium and does not need to be in color. Submissions for the contest end November 5th but submissions for the galleries will always be welcome. All submissions will be posted to the blog and Facebook galleries and one winner will have the option of having their design on Blind Sight merchandise.
To start us off, here is a sketch by Eliabeth drawn from photography by Ermisenda.
The rules:
- Must be original work.
- You must have the rights to post the work and by submitting it, you give us permission to use it in the gallaries.
- Post links to images as comments with a name or username which you would like credited and a link to your blog or Facebook page if you would like it posted. If you need a site to upload the images to, try tinypic or photobucket.
- The winner is not obligated to let us use the design for anything but the galleries.
- by submitting your work, you agree to all of the terms above and may not withdraw your submission once it has been posted.
Good luck with this. My talents lie elsewhere (she said, modestly) so I can’t enter, but I hope you get many spectacular entries.

Ah, you leave me no choice! As the rules state, (on my blog,) if you leave a comment, I’ll do a drawing for you…thanks for commenting!
This looks like a very interesting project. I would be delighted to participate!

Oh how exciting! You earned a follow for that rule (on your blog) because we might be interested in more work from you. Eventually I have in my head 5 or so characters by the same artist to make a “Which Blind Sight Character are You?” quiz but we are a long way off from that.

What a great idea! I’m going to work on it & if I’m happy with the results, I’ll forward the image to you. I was looking for my next muse & now I’ve found it 🙂
Oh wonderful! I look forward to seeing it if you end up submitting. Glad we could write up a good prompt.
Should be something enjoyable and new for me. Instead of paints, I might dig out my old coloured pencils. I am looking forward to the entries!
Thanks for your interest! Colored pencil would be great. I look forward to your entry.
Thanks for including me in this project. I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s work.
Pardon, could anyone tell a newcomer (me) where to find out more about Odette and Edaion? I’m thinking of submitting something, but it’s hard for me to draw a character without sufficient grasp of who they are.
The book is not in publication yet. We’re trying to build interest while we’re working on the query process. What would you like to know? If you would rather e-mail than leave a string of comments, both Ermisenda and Eliabeth are available to answer questions at ermilia@live.com.au
Thanks for your interest!
Sweet, I can do that. Thanks.
Sounds like a great contest, wish I could draw with any art! Good luck, I’m so looking forward to seeing the gallery.
I’ve been wandering around my house, looking for something to do, but I haven’t been able to find it on own. Thanks for the comment on my blog. This seems to be an interesting contest. I’d be glad to join. Is there more information on the character? She seems interesting.
This is our first contest so we weren’t sure what all to put. The book is unpublished, but you are more than welcome to ask questions and Ermi or Elia will be around to answer. You may leave questions here or if you don’t want to send a string of comments, we have a joint e-mail account (ermilia@live.com.au). Feel free to ask anything there and we’ll do our best to answer w/o giving out spoilers. Please mention this post in the subject line so we don’t accidentally mark you as spam.
Thanks for your interest!
What’s the timeline of the book? What kind of clothes do they where? Is the place like our Earth now, or more of a medieval-fantasy like setting?
This book is set in 2005. It’s set on an island south of the Alaskan Peninsula so it’s pretty cold, but they’d have days that they wear shirt and shorts. Odette is poor, so her clothes tend to be baggy, whatever they found in the clearance rack. Think thrift store. 🙂 Hope that helps.
Thanks for the invite 🙂 How old is she and what kind of clothes do you see her in?
She is 16. You have two options for clothes.
Everyday clothes: oversized baggy tops from thrift stores, things people got rid of once their grandmother became old enough to forget she gave it to them. She’s poor and she doesn’t care what she looks like, but pants and skirts would fit around her waist.
School uniform: Gossip Girl or Gilmore Girls inspired uniform in all navy because her brother didn’t want her to get teased for mismatching. (Doesn’t have to be in color, but it should be pretty close to the same grey scale shade) If you design a crest the mascot is an albino bear. Blouse, pants, vest, pleated skirt, sweater, jacket, any combination of those work for the ensemble. Basic black shoes without a heel if you see that much.
Thanks for the interest!
This sounds pretty nice! If I have the time, I do plan on participating in your contest 🙂 Thank you for visiting my blog, too! You may have just got yourself a regular reader ;P
That’s wonderful! 😀 Looking forward to seeing you in whatever capacity. If you don’t have time for the contest, don’t forget you may always submit to the gallery at a later point and we’ll be happy to post it; you just won’t be up for the t-shirt.
So wonderful to have come across you,
-Elia
Hi
it seems i got the age wrong! anyways here is my submission and hope it gets ideas rolling for others. 🙂
Let me know of any issues.
Thanks
Oh it’s wonderful! Thank you so much for participating. This was our first contest so we’re still learning too. Sorry we didn’t post the age before you finished, but live and learn. Stick around and there might be other characters to draw as well.
Do you want “Samar” and your blog as the tag or something else?
Thanks again,
Eliabeth
Samar and my blog tag is fine. Ty 🙂

I just put my drawing up on my blog!
http://wp.me/p1UrcT-16.
My website is: http://cargocollective.com/nacreousdelights
Come check it out.
Wonderful, thank you. 🙂 Would you like “Liamodo” and your website under the image then?
Liam O’Donnell and my website or my blog would be best.
my blog: nacreousdelights.wordpress.com
got it, thanks!
What is her personality like? Why is she blindfolded? When I first read the blindfolded part, my first impression was of Argentina, during the Dirty War. During that time, innocent people were kidnapped and kept in surveillance with their eyes blindfolded.
Thanks for stopping by at my blog!
Thank you for your interest in ours 🙂
Personality: She’s shy when she first meets people but when she opens up she’s very opinionated, easy to anger, and hates when people baby her. Since her brother is her caretaker, she is very possessive of his time and attention.
She’s blindfolded because she never wears the glasses some blind people do. If your piece is chosen for the t-shirt the title “Blind Sight” is going above the image, and we want it obvious that she’s blind. Underneath we’re considering “whose eyes do you see through?” since one volume is “through the eyes of Aniela” and the other is “through the eyes of Leocardo.”
The contest is interesting! 🙂 I would love to join. ^__^ Thanks for commenting on my blog.
Awesome, looking forward to your contribution.
Interesting blog you have! As much as I want to join your contest, again, sorry but I’m busy with other projects. Still, I’ll try to make the time. Thank you!
Thank you, we’ve worked hard building it. No worries, you’re always welcome to submit something later and there’s likely to be other contests in the future.
awesome! I would LOVE to participate! Can’t wait to see what others come up with! 😉
Wonderful! Looking forward to your contribution.
What a pretty sketch!
Odette is really interesting! I think I see myself in her (lol because I am fond of clothes from thrift shops). I will try my best to come up with an artwork before the deadline. Since I’ve got no school for the next few weeks, I can definitely work on this! YAY! 😀
Thanks for stopping by my blog too. :>
YAY! It’s so neat to hear someone relate to our characters! I’m so excited to see your submission.
Thank you for encouraging me to take part in this! I will see if I can get something ready in time.
😀 Looking forward to it. Thanks for the interest. Even if you’re not done in time for the contest, the gallery won’t close so you can always submit something at a later point.
Okay, not the best, but I whipped up this doodle:

Oh I looooove it. I’m thrilled someone did something abstract. Thank you so much for your contribution. What name and website (if any) would you like posted underneath the piece?
I’m glad you like it… I really enjoyed making it 🙂 Please add Susan Korsnick and my blog address which is susankorsnick.wordpress.com. The piece is simply called Odette.
Thank you Ermilia for inviting me to join your contest. Here’s my contribution:
