I stirred in bed, tossing and turning. The morning light blinded me. I gave up on seeking more sleep and turned to face my room. I noticed a strange black spot on my wooden chair. A cockroach? Grossed out by cockroaches, I leapt out of my bed to grab the bug spray. Taking a second look, I noticed that it wasn’t a cockroach at all.
I walked up to it and stared. It was a black thorn. How strange… I brought my finger close and touched the tip. I tried to pull my finger away, but I couldn’t. The thorn was suctioned onto my skin like a parasite. My pulse quickened. I yanked my finger back brusquely and blood spilled from the tip of my finger. Goosebumps erupted along my skin and my stomach dropped. I clenched my finger to stop the bleeding. What on earth… A second thorn erupted. Then a third. Before I knew it, there were hundreds of thorns all over my chair, wardrobe, and bed. They slid out from the wood with ease and they all pointed towards me. My eyes widened and I whimpered, “Mum… dad…”
