I found this reading speed test the other day. I thought I would share it. It’s quite fun and interesting how it compares your reading capabilities to others. I don’t know how accurate it is but it’s still an enjoyable quick exercise for us readers out there, the slow and fast alike.
I got 658 words per minute. I originally had 788 but I knew I was trying to read fast.
BUT REMEMBER GUYS! It’s not a race. *Shifty eyes* I WANT TO WIN! *Cough* I was never an athlete… let reading fast be cool…
At the end of the day, we change our reading speed depending on the scene but I thought it was a fun little exercise regardless. ^^
Apparently if I was to maintain this speed I would be able to read War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy in 14 hours and 53 minutes. Yeesh! Has anyone here read that book? When I worked in the book store I was intimidated by it’s brick structure. It was the bully on the shelves, it pushed all the lanky books out of the way and onto the ground. Anyway… /tangent over.
So, how fast are you?

Oh my, I don’t dare trying, I know I would break a record for slow reading.
I am definitely not speedy. I like to take my time and soak each word in.
Hehehe. I love it when a scene demands my full attention and I slow down to savour every word. Thanks for stopping by!
Apparently, I’m at 430 words per minute. Willing to bet I’m a lot faster when it’s something I’ve read before, and probably a lot slower when reading something like poetry, where each word has more weight. Fun test though!
Yeah, the speed at which we read changes all the time. I’m glad you enjoyed the test. It gave some fun stats at the end, huh?
Thanks for commenting, katkasia!
I proved this for you, Kat. My first sample was confusing and unfamiliar. I read it at 465 wpm with no idea what I’d read afterward. Then I read a sample from Alice in Wonderland at 524 wpm and remembered exactly what I read.
Hehe awesome.
Thanks for commenting, Annie!
Mine was 348 words a minute. I read as fast as an 11th grade. Uh oh…time to go back to school.
Thanks for stopping by and trying out the speed reader test.
296 per minute. 18% faster than the average. Not bad
3:24 the war of worlds, by Wells.
This was fun!
Not bad at all.
I’m glad it was fun for you. Gracias por el commentario, Giovanna!
Wow i read precisely 1000 per sec!
Ha ha ha I only scored 302 per minute *giggles*
Brilliant
Xx
Only? What do you mean only? That’s great!
Reading is awesome no matter what speed we read at. ^^ Thanks for stopping by, Vikki!
I’m very bad… the second time I tried it, I got Alice in Wonderland, so I skipped it, answered the questions right and got a reading speed of 2800 words a minuite
Bahaha! That’s awesome. ^^ We have a record speed reader on your blog!
382 lol. Although in my defence, the passage I had to read was *terrible*. There was some weird kid with a cockney accent and baffling sentence structure… lol, I’m just making excuses now. Still, twice my speed – you win
Hehe. Nice work! Thanks for sharing. It’s probably one of the few things I’ll ever win.
t262 :[ I am just average. I should have my mother do it though. She reads faster than me!
Hey, average isn’t a bad thing!
Most of us fall in that bracket. Thanks for stopping by.
Well I am the slowest reader on the planet. Won’t even say what the speed was, but in my defense I have a problem reading on the computer screen and I am outside making it very dark. I’d do much better with an old fashioned book in my hand.
I think it also depends on the subject matter. If it’s a book I am really into then I tend to read much faster then something that I feel is dragging along? Is that true for anyone else?
Very true for me! A great book or a great scene gets read so much quicker. But I have little patience for books that don’t draw my attention and force me to flick through the pages. They’re the best kinds of books.
The ones you finish the fastest even though you wish you had never finished them, the story was too good. Thanks for sharing, ramblinann!
