I urge people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. The wolf’s mighty howl shattered the silence. I locked my car for the fifth time. I had encountered the beast upon the road on my way home. Thankfully for the high beam lights, I had seen her before it had been too late. But her and her two cubs would not move. I tried to swallow the knot lodged in my throat. I didn’t know much about wolves and I had no idea if she was calling for the rest of her pack. Her eyes met mine and she growled. Her black gums wriggled, exposing her sharp canines. I quickly placed my car into reverse and decided to find another way home.

Ha, cool! You hit one of my dreams… way too long for the whole story, but I’ll come back with the wolf part.
I like the mother standing firm to protect her cubs. And your decision to let nature be.

Okay. It’s kinda late and I don’t know how I did with this, but here’s The First Quest of Greybourne
I really loved this part ‘The moor and the valley filled with the resounding cry. Wail after wail went up in a chorus around me. Eerie. Haunting. Beautiful. Exhilarating.’ It was really powerful. Awesome work as per usual, Annie! It sounded like a great dream, well, as much as we’ve read. 😉
The long story made short. The wolves help me complete the second quest and I return to find the kingdom in ruins at the hand of my father. The story’s actually still okay up to there. I demand that the subjects, now my subjects, rebuild it. They build a magnificent 30,000 unit complex… the first Windermere Suites. The dream ends with a court like Parliament wherein I learn of an uprising from a Lord Marriott. I woke up talking to myself… “Seriously? Hotels?” But I wrote it all in my notes anyway and see? It came in handy.
Hahaha! I love it! 😀 A great, funny, second part. I can definitely understand why you kept them separate.
The white smoke, as it breathed
let a chill go through my body.
His tooth hurt, as he weaved
a new pattern in my body.
The moment i remember i grieved
as my flesh left my body.
and the he howled and as he turned around
I left my body.

Everyday I stared at the tall trees, trying to count all the falling leaves.
Every night I listened to the sweet howls of the wolves until I fall asleep.
And each time I wonder when someone will find me and bring me back home.
I believed I knew the way back, but I always ended up in a loop.
I was lost.
And I wondered: will my little Kitty be fed? aren’t they missing me? What is happening out there?
Has she seduced the man who was mine?
All these thoughts and motivations, and yet, I could not find my way.
Life has never been so hard.
Hey there! Thanks for contributing this week. I really liked the sight of counting falling leaves. The use of multiple questions was effective in expressing the anxiety felt by the persona. Nice work!
I would love to read a longer piece one of these days, MD. The one you wrote last week where you broke completely away from the darkness in your cloud dream was so different and still so strong!
Like Marian just did to me: Are you kidnapped? By who? When did you wander away and loop back? Why? How? Was it an escape attempt? Is your Kitty even little still or do you just remember it that way? I’ll stop now… ♥

In fact I haven’t been kidnapped but I got lost as I was wandering outside of the house… and this doomed forest just caught my attention, I, a young naive girl. The woods hypnotised me. It begged me to come and pay a visit. Then its jaws closed over my little body… and I got trapped…
For eternity.
I don’t know for how long I’ve remained like this, in nature. Time has no meaning there. I can’t seem to grow older either… as if I was given immortality. Vague memories came in and out of my mind but it became less frequent… I was slowly going to forget… I was gradually becoming part of the forest.
How many has it trapped before me?
Is there no way to escape this fate?
I’ll leave the ending open 🙂

Okay…. Let me try:
The wolf’s icy shriek broke the silence, her breath came in in small cold puffs. She was injuired in her back paw, shot my a hunter, thinking he could take her home for a prize. But no, he had been wrong, she would fight for however long she could.
Dragging her back paw forcefully through the snow, she headed to the hot spring, where hopefully she could get some peace and tend to it, she made it a couple of feet until she heart the click of the gun and the stomps of the hunter, she had little or no time to find a spot. Or so she thought, as she looked around frantically she say a rotted out log that would cover her, she hurried over there as fast as she could. Taking cover.
The hunter let out a cold breath, scouting the land for her. He spotted her tracks vanishing, and smiled, this time, he would win… or so he thought. As he followed him carefully, he barely heard the small footsteps behind him, he finally lowered down his gun to scout the tracks, she saw an opening.
Running as fast as her feet could take her, she leapt onto his back, piercing her sharp claws into the soft flesh of his shoulder. She didn’t intend to kill him, just fend him off. Once she had given him enough injuiries, she jumped from her spot and ran toward the spring, knowing he couldn’t follow if he wanted his life also.
She arrived at the spring, lowering in her injuired paw, she’d done it once again, she’d defeated the hunter.
I know lots of errors 😦

I loved this part to bits ‘I watched in horror as her bones snapped back with a chorus of cracks.’ that was fantastic. ‘chorus of cracks’ is just pure brilliance. A dark edged story, the best kind. I loved your efforts this week in Picture it & write. I can’t wait to see you next week!
It always starts with a chill, the place that only will can steel. “Winter’s almost through with you,” I hear the wind as it tells me what’s to do. The spirits won’t come quick enough on these nights of frozen blues. I’ve almost had enough, the pain in my gut has me by the scruff. As I wander along my path, sometimes here, sometimes there, most people just simply seem to stare. Will they ever understand? This world is so much more than just their heavy hand. So I sit; I speak and I wait, the others seem to enjoy running late.

A Wolves Tale
Spiritual Creatures of a divine race
Are the survivors of time
And steady roaming this place
Casting off all evil that threaten their home,
They face the Demons of the night
And they face them alone.
Thriving off the fear nature imposes
Upon the earth’s surface,
And illuminates the light of what it disposes.
They leave footprints to mark their returning
To the lands they once roamed
Before ever decending on their Journey.
Look into the eyes of the Beast,
Learn of the stories they’ve told,
And The Spirit of the Northern Gaurdian will unfold.
